The Key Info
The Description
Chamonix’s signature VolSkiRando, which allows paragliders to enjoy the classic Pas de Chèvre ski descent without having to cross the exposed moraines above La Mer de Glace.
Ski-tour from the Bochard lift in the Grand Montets ski area, to the Col de Montets via the Col des Rachasses.
Enjoy the ski descent down the Pas de Chèvre. A number of possible options exist in the Pase de Chèvre basin for the descent including the classic steep ski in the Rectingne Couloir.
Take off around well above 2000m well above the tree line. Do not land in Bois de Bouchet winter landing, to make sure you do not fly over the helipad and restricted flying area R30A. Land on golf course next to Flégère lift if golf course not open and covered in snow, or on the Ski de Fond track before Argentière.
Please rememebr a ski-descent to La Mer de Glace from the Pas de Chèvre is nowadays extremely dangerous, so this itinerary should be completed in perfect weather when weather conditions for a take-off are guaranteed.
Wing Used & Why
I used my Dudek Run&Fly, weighing just 986g. An excellent wing for the itinerary allowing me to enjoy the ski with little extra weight and its glide was sufficient to reach the golf course.
